Tour Details

A private overnight escape from Safaga Port to Egypt's ancient capital,

Safaga Port sits roughly four hours from Luxor by road, close enough that a two-day trip inland is one of the most rewarding shore excursions cruise passengers can book.

This private tour trades a single rushed day for two unhurried ones, giving you time to actually take in Karnak's columned halls, cross the Nile for the Valley of the Kings, and still sleep in a proper bed at a 5-star hotel between the two.

Day one starts with the drive from Safaga to Luxor and a stop at Karnak Temple, a complex built up over roughly 1,500 years and dedicated mainly to the god Amun.

From there it's on to Luxor Temple, built around 1400 BC as the site of the ancient Opet Festival, before a lunch break on the Nile and check-in at your hotel. The day closes with the Sound and Light Show at Karnak after dark, when the temple is lit and narrated rather than just walked through.

Day two crosses to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings, burial ground of Ramesses the Great, Seti I, and Tutankhamun among 63 known tombs, then Hatshepsut's mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari and the two seated Colossi of Memnon.

After lunch at a Nile-view restaurant, your guide and driver take you back to Safaga Port in time to rejoin your ship.

Throughout both days, your Egyptologist guide and air-conditioned vehicle stay with you and your group only, so the pace is yours to set. Have questions before you book, or want to adjust the itinerary? Send us a message on WhatsApp

Itinerary

Day1

Safaga Port to Luxor, Karnak, Luxor Temple & Sound and Light Show

Your guide and driver meet you at Safaga Port for the road transfer to Luxor. The first stop is Karnak Temple, built up over roughly 1,500 years between 2000 BC and 30 BC and dedicated mainly to the god Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu.

Its Avenue of Sphinxes and the Great Hypostyle Hall, a forest of 134 columns, are the parts most visitors remember. From Karnak, you move to Luxor Temple, raised around 1400 BC and once the site of the annual Opet Festival, when statues of the Theban gods were carried between the two temples.

Lunch is served on an island reached by a short boat crossing, after which you check in to your 5-star hotel and have time to rest before the evening.

After dark, you return to Karnak for the Sound and Light Show, which walks through the temple's history and the reigns of the pharaohs who built it, using narration and lighting across the site rather than a single stage.

You spend the night at your hotel in Luxor.

  • Meals: Lunch
  • Accommodation: 5-star hotel, Luxor
Day2

West Bank of Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple & Return to Safaga

After breakfast and check-out, your guide and vehicle take you across the Nile to the West Bank, starting at the Valley of the Kings.

Used as a royal burial ground during the New Kingdom, roughly 1570 to 1050 BC, it holds 63 known tombs, including those of Ramesses the Great, Seti I, and Tutankhamun.

From there you visit Hatshepsut's mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahari, cut into the cliffs around 1479 BC and built to honor the god Amun and Hatshepsut's own reign as pharaoh.

The last stop is the Colossi of Memnon, two seated statues of Amenhotep III that once marked the entrance to his mortuary temple.

Lunch is served at a restaurant overlooking the Nile before the drive back to Safaga Port, timed to have you back at your ship by the end of the day.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
  • Accommodation: N/A (return to ship)

Notes

This tour runs as a private overnight trip, not a group tour, so departure times can shift slightly to match your ship's schedule at Safaga Port.

The Sound and Light Show at Karnak runs on a fixed daily schedule set by the site, and the show language/timing will be confirmed closer to your date. The hotel stay is based on double or twin occupancy; single travelers should flag this at booking, as a single-room supplement may apply.

Walking involves uneven ancient stone surfaces at Karnak, Luxor Temple, and the Valley of the Kings, and the Valley of the Kings tomb interiors involve stairs and low passageways, so comfortable closed shoes are recommended.

A modest dress (shoulders and knees covered) is appropriate at all temple sites.

Children are welcome on this tour; please mention ages at the time of booking so we can flag anything relevant.

Because this trip includes an overnight stay, please make sure your cruise line's shore-excursion policy allows for a two-day, overnight tour before booking.
