Private Excursion from Alexandria Port to the Citadel, Coptic Cairo & Khan el-Khalili Bazaar

Cairo is roughly three hours from Alexandria port, and this private day tour is built around getting you there, through the city's most important sites, and back to your ship without wasted time.

You'll visit the Citadel of Salah El-Din, the historic churches of Coptic Cairo, and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, three stops that, between them, cover Cairo's Islamic, Christian, and everyday commercial history in a single day. A licensed Egyptologist guide travels with you throughout, and the vehicle and driver are yours alone, so the pace adjusts to your group rather than a bus schedule.

The day starts with an early pickup directly from the port gate. From the Citadel's hilltop walls, overlooking Cairo and the Mohamed Ali Mosque inside it, you'll head into Coptic Cairo to see the Hanging Church and the older religious quarter nearby.

The day closes at Khan el-Khalili, Cairo's centuries-old bazaar, before the drive back to Alexandria in time for your ship's departure. To adjust the stops or ask about pickup timing, message us on WhatsApp

Itinerary

Day1

Cairo Citadel, Coptic Cairo & Khan el-Khalili

Your guide meets you at the port gate for an early pickup, timed around your ship's schedule, and the drive to Cairo takes roughly three hours by private, air-conditioned vehicle. The first stop is the Citadel of Salah El-Din, built in the 12th century and still standing over the city, inside it, the Mohamed Ali Mosque and the views over Cairo from the Citadel walls are the highlight.

From there you head to Coptic Cairo, the city's oldest Christian quarter, to see the Hanging Church (El Muallaqa) and the surrounding religious complex, including the Ben Ezra Synagogue nearby. The day continues at Khan el-Khalili.

Cairo's historic bazaar since the 14th century, where your guide can point you toward specific stalls for spices, jewelry, or souvenirs, with time built in to browse at your own pace.

Your guide and driver stay with you throughout; there's no fixed group to keep pace with, and stops can run longer or shorter depending on what interests your group. The return drive to Alexandria is scheduled to have you back at the port well ahead of your ship's departure.

Notes

Return Timing: This is a long day; expect roughly a 3-hour drive each way plus time at each site. Pickup is scheduled around your ship's arrival and confirmed departure time, and the route is planned to have you back at the port with a comfortable buffer.

Dress Code for Religious Sites: Modest clothing is required at both the Citadel's mosque and the churches of Coptic Cairo, shoulders and knees covered for all visitors. Head coverings are not required for women at these sites, but a scarf is useful to have on hand.

Physical Requirements: The Citadel involves walking on uneven stone surfaces and some inclines; Khan el-Khalili is a walking market with narrow, crowded lanes. Let us know in advance if reduced mobility is a factor so we can adjust the pace.

Itinerary Flexibility: The order of stops can shift depending on traffic or site opening hours on the day. Any changes are made to protect your return time to the port, not to shorten the visit.
