4 Day tours to White Desert Camping from Cairo

Your guide meets you at your Cairo hotel early morning, and you set off in a private, air-conditioned vehicle for the roughly 350 km drive to Bahariya Oasis, with two coffee stops along the way to break up the road.

At Bahariya, you switch to a private 4x4 Jeep, just your group, no other travelers tagging along, and head into the desert.

The first stop is the Black Desert, where volcanic hills are coated in dark, gravel-like sediment that gives the area its name. From there, you continue to El Haize Oasis, a small spring-fed spot in the Western Desert, for lunch and a chance to cool off before the afternoon push.

Next is the Valley of Agabat, a stretch of wind-carved sandstone hills in shades of gold and cream, tucked between dunes.

You'll arrive at camp inside the White Desert by late afternoon, have dinner, and spend your first night there—no light pollution, no noise, just the desert.

Wake up in camp to a White Desert sunrise, then have breakfast before setting off for Djara Cave, a prehistoric site in the Western Desert. Inside, rock formations sit alongside faded paintings of gazelles and other animals, preserved for thousands of years under a stone ceiling that's kept the cave dry and dark.

From there, you head to Ain El Serw, a mineral spring with enough shade cover for a proper break, a quieter, smaller stop than yesterday's lunch spot at El Haize, with room to sit and actually rest rather than just pass through.

You're back at camp by evening for your second night in the White Desert. It's just your own guide for the day, no other travelers to catch up with or wait around for.

Breakfast at camp, then you leave the White Desert behind and head back toward Bahariya Oasis.

The first stop is Crystal Mountain, a small rock formation of exposed quartz, believed to have been shattered and pushed to the surface by an earthquake millions of years ago; it still catches the light in a way nothing else on this route does.

From there, the road leads into Bahariya Oasis itself: palm groves, olive orchards, and natural springs, a clear change of scenery after two days of open desert.

You check into your hotel and have lunch before a guided tour of the oasis, taking in Gebel Maghrafa, the Lake of the Marun salt lake at Gebel Al-Marun, and Gebel Al Ingleez, locals call it English Mountain, where the highest point gives you a clear view over the oasis as the sun goes down

Your last day starts in Bawiti, the main town of Bahariya Oasis, before heading to Ain El Muftella Temple, a small rock-cut temple complex dating back to the 26th Dynasty.

From there, you visit the Golden Mummies Museum, home to Greco-Roman-era mummies first uncovered in 1996, many still wearing their original gilded masks.

After lunch in the oasis, you begin the drive back to Cairo, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening depending on the road.

It's your own guide the whole way, so there's no group to regroup with before heading out. That's the end of the tour, four days from a hotel pickup in Cairo to two nights of desert silence and back again.
