Ras Mohammed National Park: A Diver’s Paradise

Ras Mohamed National Park is located at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, about 20 km south of Sharm El Sheikh. The park lies where the Gulf of Suez meets the Gulf of Aqaba, creating one of the richest marine ecosystems in the Red Sea.
Established in 1983, the park covers approximately 480 square kilometers, with nearly 345 square kilometers consisting of protected marine waters. Today, it is one of Egypt's most important protected areas for coral reefs and marine biodiversity.

Ras Mohamed was created to protect one of the world's most diverse marine environments. The park is home to more than 220 species of coral, over 1,000 species of fish, hundreds of invertebrates, sea turtles, dolphins, and many migratory bird species.

-What Can You See Inside Ras Mohamed National Park?

*Allah Gate
Allah Gate is the symbolic entrance to the national park. Built in 1989, the monument was designed so that its shape resembles the Arabic word "Allah" when viewed from a specific angle. It has become one of the park's most photographed landmarks.
*Magic Lake
Magic Lake is a shallow saltwater lagoon connected to the Red Sea. The color of the lake appears to change throughout the day because of sunlight, water depth, and reflections from the surrounding landscape.
Does Magic Lake really change color?
Yes. The changing angle of the sun and the reflection of the sky make the water appear in different shades of blue and turquoise during the day.
*Mangrove Channel
One of the most unique ecosystems in the park is the Mangrove Channel. It is home to Avicennia marina, the only mangrove species naturally growing in this region. These trees survive in salty water by filtering salt through their roots and releasing excess salt from their leaves.
The mangroves provide shelter for fish, crabs, birds, and other marine animals.
*Earthquake Crack
The Earthquake Crack is a deep geological fissure filled with seawater. It was formed by natural tectonic activity that shaped the Sinai Peninsula. Visitors often stop here to observe the clear water and impressive rock formations.
*Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef
These two connected reefs are considered among the best diving sites in the Red Sea.
Shark Reef is famous for its steep coral walls and schools of snapper and barracuda, while Yolanda Reef is known for the remains of the cargo ship Yolanda, which sank in 1980. Divers can still see scattered cargo, including bathroom fixtures resting on the seabed.
