Tour Details

Watch the Great Pyramids and Sphinx Come Alive After Dark with Private Cairo Transfers

  • The Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids of Giza turns the Giza Plateau into an open-air stage after dark.
  • Colored lights sweep across the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx while a narrated history plays through the site's sound system.
  • Aten Tours runs this as a private evening tour: your vehicle, driver, and tour leader are assigned to your group only, with no shared shuttle schedule to work around.
  • Pickup and drop-off from your Cairo or Giza hotel are included in an air-conditioned vehicle, along with bottled water for the ride and admission to the show itself.
  • Your tour leader travels with you from hotel to plateau and back and can walk you through what you're seeing as the monuments light up.
  • This isn't a stripped-down, transfer-only booking—every practical piece of the evening is arranged before you leave your hotel.
  • The narration is told through the voice of the Great Sphinx, which has watched over the Giza necropolis for nearly five thousand years.
  • From there, the story moves through the reigns of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the three pharaohs whose pyramids anchor the plateau, touching on how the monuments were built and why they've outlasted almost everything else from the ancient world.
  • Seating faces the pyramids directly, so the lighting and narration land as a single, continuous experience rather than something viewed from a distance.
  • If you'd like a shopping stop worked into the return drive, that can be arranged when you book—it isn't part of the standard itinerary, so just ask your coordinator to add it.

Itinerary

Day1

Evening Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids of Giza

  • Your evening starts with a pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza at a time agreed with you in advance. From there, your tour leader travels with you in a private, air-conditioned vehicle toward the Giza Plateau, where the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure sit alongside the Great Sphinx.
  • As night falls, the show begins. Lights move across the three pyramids while a narrated history plays through the site's sound system, with the Great Sphinx serving as the narrator's central voice throughout. The story covers how the pyramids were built and moves through the reigns of several well-known pharaohs, including Thutmose IV, Akhenaten, Nefertiti, and Tutankhamun, tying the monuments to the wider history of ancient Egyptian civilization.
  • Once the show ends, your tour leader accompanies you back to your vehicle for the return transfer to your hotel. If you'd like to extend the evening, an optional night tour of Cairo can be arranged on request for an additional charge — this isn't part of the standard booking, so let your coordinator know in advance if you'd like it added.

  • Bottled water provided during the drive.
  • All taxes and service charges included in the price.

Notes

  • Evenings at the Giza Plateau get noticeably cooler than daytime temperatures, even in summer, so bringing a light jacket or sweater is worth it, especially in winter months. The seating area faces the pyramids and Sphinx directly, and the ground around the plateau is uneven in places, so comfortable, flat shoes are recommended over sandals or heels.
  • The show takes place outdoors regardless of most weather conditions; in the rare case of a cancellation on Aten Tours' side, our team will contact you directly to reschedule or arrange an alternative. Photography is permitted throughout the show, though flash photography may not carry well in the dark and isn't necessary given the lighting on the monuments themselves.
  • This tour suits most ages, though very young children may find the seated, narration-heavy format less engaging than a daytime pyramid visit. If you're traveling with small children, let your coordinator know so pickup timing and seating can be planned with that in mind.
