Overnight Trip to Cairo from Port Said

Your Egyptologist guide meets you at the Port Said cruise exit door and walks you to your private, air-conditioned vehicle for the drive to Cairo, roughly three hours across the Delta.

At the Giza Plateau, Khufu's Great Pyramid dominates the skyline, the largest of the three and the only surviving structure among the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. Khafre's pyramid sits just behind it, and thanks to the plateau's natural slope, it can actually look taller from some angles despite being smaller.

Menkaure's pyramid, the third and smallest, completes the trio. From there, you'll walk to the Great Sphinx, carved from a single limestone outcrop, then on to the Valley Temple in front of Khafre's pyramid, where the pharaoh's body was ritually purified before burial.

The next stop is Saqqara, to see the Step Pyramid of Djoser, built around the 27th century BC by the architect Imhotep and considered the world's oldest large-scale cut-stone structure. Its six-tiered design marks the transition from earlier mastaba tombs to the true pyramid shape later perfected at Giza.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you'll transfer to your 5-star hotel in Cairo for the night, closing out your first day

After breakfast at your hotel, your Egyptologist guide picks you up to begin day two in Cairo.

You'll start at the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the complete Tutankhamun collection is displayed together for the first time since Howard Carter's 1922 discovery: the golden mask, the nested coffins, his chariots, and ceremonial furniture, all in one purpose-built gallery.

Beyond the Tutankhamun galleries, the museum's Grand Atrium holds the towering Ramses II colossus, moved here from downtown Cairo in one of the country's most complex artifact relocations in decades.

From Giza, you'll head to the Citadel of Saladin, a hilltop fortress built between 1176 and 1183 AD on Salah ad-Din's orders to defend Cairo against Crusader forces. For nearly 700 years, it served as the seat of Egypt's rulers, from the Ayyubid and Mamluk sultans through the Ottoman governors who controlled Egypt until the mid-19th century.

Inside its walls stands the Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque, built in the 1830s and 1840s and named for its walls, faced almost entirely in alabaster brought from Upper Egypt. From the terrace outside, you'll look out over Islamic Cairo's skyline of domes and minarets, with the city stretching toward the Nile below.

If time allows, you'll finish the day at Khan El Khalili Bazaar, founded in 1382 AD by the Mamluk emir Jaharkas al-Khalili as a trading hub for caravans passing through Cairo.

Its narrow lanes, largely unchanged in layout for over 600 years, sit beside the Al-Hussein Mosque and are still lined with workshops and stalls selling gold, silver, spices, leather, and textiles. From there, your guide walks you back to your vehicle for the drive to Port Said and your ship.
