Tour Details

Golden Mummies, the Black Desert, and a Night Camping Under the White Desert Stars

This private 3-day Egypt tour to Bahariya Oasis and the White Desert takes you from Cairo into Egypt's Western Desert with your own guide and vehicle throughout.

It suits travelers who want more than a rushed day trip: real time at each site, a night in an oasis-style hut, and a night camping under a genuinely dark sky.

The first stop is Bahariya Oasis itself. A licensed Egyptologist guide walks you through the Museum of the Golden Mummies and the Tombs of the Nobles, and then there's a natural hot spring to sit in for the afternoon before you drive up to Black Mountain for sunset over the oasis and the ruins of the old English House.

Day two hands you over to a private 4x4 jeep for the desert stretch of this Egypt Desert Safari: the volcanic black rubble of the Black Desert, the quartz outcrops at Crystal Mountain, and the pale gold dunes of the Valley of Agabat, with sandboarding on offer if you want it.

You'll sleep that night in the White Desert, among the wind-carved chalk shapes locals call the Mushroom and the Rabbit, with dinner cooked over a fire rather than served in a dining room.

The route runs one way: Cairo to Bahariya, Bahariya into the Black and White Deserts, and back through Bahariya to Cairo. Your driver and guide handle every transfer, so the three days build on each other instead of doubling back. To adjust the pace or ask about dates before booking, message us on WhatsApp

Itinerary

Day1

Cairo to Bahariya Oasis, Golden Mummies & Sunset at Black Mountain

You leave Cairo by private car and head west into the desert, about four hours to Bahariya Oasis with one stop along the way.

A private Egyptologist guide meets you there and takes you through the Museum of the Golden Mummies, the Tombs of the Nobles, the 332 BC Temple of Alexander the Great, and the Temple of Ain El Muftella; the order can shift if one site interests you more than another.

Lunch is at a restaurant in the oasis, after which you settle into your hut for the night and spend the rest of the afternoon soaking in a nearby hot spring.

Late in the day, Black Mountain and the ruins of the old English house give you a spot for sunset over the oasis.

Day2

Black Desert, Crystal Mountain & Camping in the White Desert

After breakfast in Bahariya, you switch to a private 4x4 jeep for the desert stretch of the trip.

The route runs through the Black Desert, a spread of volcanic hills and dark stone, then on to El Haize, where you can stop for a swim in the hot spring if you feel like it.

From there, Crystal Mountain and the Valley of Agabat give you a close look at quartz outcrops and gold-colored dunes, with sandboarding available for anyone who wants to try it.

Your private guide sets the pace through these stops, so you can linger wherever catches your eye. By evening you reach camp in the White Desert, where dinner is cooked over a fire under the sky.

Day3

White Desert Sunrise, Mushroom & Rabbit Rock Formations, Return to Cairo

Morning starts in the White Desert itself, with breakfast at camp and time to explore the limestone shapes around you, including the well-known mushroom and rabbit formations, before the return drive to Bahariya Oasis.

Your guide and driver handle every transfer, so there are no logistics to manage on the way back, just the desert scenery from the jeep's window. In Bahariya, you switch back to the air-conditioned car for the four-hour drive to Cairo, arriving at your hotel by late afternoon.

If you'd like extra time at any formation before heading back, mention it to your guide; the morning has some room to adjust.

Notes

Holiday pricing: The listed price does not apply during Christmas, New Year, or Coptic/Eastern Egyptian holidays. Contact us for holiday-specific rates before booking.

Physical requirements: This tour involves several hours of driving on unpaved desert tracks, walking on sand, and one night sleeping in a tent. It suits travelers in reasonably good health; it's not recommended for anyone with mobility difficulties or a bad back that unpaved roads would aggravate.

What to bring: Days in the desert can be hot, but nights in the White Desert camp get cold, even in summer. Bring layers, a warm jacket for the evening, closed shoes for walking on rock and sand, and sunscreen.

Camping conditions: The White Desert camp has shared tents with mattresses and blankets provided, no electricity or plumbing on site, and a fire-cooked dinner. It's a genuine desert camping experience, not a glamping setup.

Route and itinerary: The order of sites on Day 2 may shift slightly depending on weather, road conditions, or group preference, without affecting what's included overall
