Edfu Temple and Kom Ombo Temple Tour

A day tour from Aswan can take you to Kom Ombo and Edfu, with stops at two notable temples on the Nile. You start at your hotel in Aswan, then ride in a private, air-conditioned car. An Egyptologist guide goes with you and explains what you see as you move through each site.

First with Aten Tours, you visit Kom Ombo Temple. This temple is set up for two gods. One is Sobek, shown with a crocodile head and linked with the Nile. The other is Haroeris, shown with a falcon head and tied to Horus. The plan is not like most temples. It has twin sections, with separate entrances, rooms, and sacred areas for each god.

After Kom Ombo, you continue to Edfu. Here you see the Temple of Horus. This Kom Ombo and Edfu tour from Aswan lets you walk through one of Egypt’s best-kept ancient temple sites. Carved scenes cover the walls and describe Horus and his well-known conflict with Seth.

Long ago, both temples were covered by sand and Nile silt. For many years, they stayed that way until excavations brought them back to view. Because of that, many carvings and reliefs survived. Architectural details also remained clear, so you can better understand ancient Egyptian religion and craftsmanship.

With a private Kom Ombo Edfu tour, you set your own pace. You are not rushed with a big group. Your driver brings you from Aswan to Kom Ombo and then to Edfu, leaving more time to enjoy the temples without constant schedule pressure.

If you want an Edfu Temple and Kom Ombo Temple tour, this trip brings together history, impressive stonework, expert guidance, and comfortable private rides in a single day. For travelers looking for a Kom Ombo Edfu day tour, it offers an easy way to experience both temples from Aswan.

Itinerary

Day1

Edfu and Kom Ombo day trip from Aswan

Your guide meets you at your Aswan hotel in the morning, and the drive to Kom Ombo Temple takes about an hour along the Nile. This Kom Ombo Edfu day tour begins with Kom Ombo, which is unusual among Egyptian temples for its symmetrical dual design — one half dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, the other to Haroeris, a falcon form of Horus. Your guide walks you through both sides, pointing out the temple's small crocodile mummy museum and the calendar reliefs carved into the inner walls.

From Kom Ombo, it's roughly another hour by road to Edfu, home to the Temple of Horus. This Aswan to Kom Ombo and Edfu journey takes you to a temple remarkably preserved by centuries of desert sand, which helped protect its pylon, columns, and wall carvings. Inside, the reliefs tell the story of Horus's battle with Seth in sequence, hall by hall, and your guide explains the narrative panel by panel rather than rushing through.

After Edfu, the drive returns you to your Aswan hotel, or continues on toward Luxor if that's arranged in advance. The pace at each site is set by your group, making this private Kom Ombo Edfu tour a comfortable way to explore both temples without following a fixed schedule.

Inclusions/Exclusions

  • A professional English-speaking Egyptologist guide at both Kom Ombo and Edfu, explaining the dual-god design and the temple reliefs in detail.
  • Entrance fees and tickets for Kom Ombo Temple and Edfu Temple, already arranged before you arrive.
  • Bottled mineral water during the drive and at each site.
  • All taxes and service charges  the price you see is what you pay.
Exclusions
  • Gratuities for your guide and driver.
  • Optional shopping stops in Aswan (available on request, not part of the standard itinerary).
  • Any activity or site not listed in this itinerary.
  • Seasonal surcharges may apply during Christmas, New Year, and Easter periods.

Notes

  • Dress code: Both temples are open-air religious sites with a lot of walking on uneven stone. Comfortable closed shoes are strongly recommended. Light, breathable clothing works best given Upper Egypt's heat, and a hat plus sunglasses help during the midday hours at Edfu's open courtyards.
  • Physical requirements: The tour involves walking through hypostyle halls, courtyards, and some stairs at both temples  moderate walking, no climbing. Suitable for most fitness levels, though those with mobility difficulties should let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
  • Photography: Photography is generally allowed at both sites; flash photography near painted reliefs is best avoided to protect the original pigment.
  • Timing: The drive between Aswan, Kom Ombo, and Edfu takes roughly an hour each way, so a good part of the day is spent on the road between temple visits rather than at a single site.
  • Group and pacing: This is a private tour  your guide and vehicle are dedicated to your group only, so the pace at each temple is set by you, not a fixed group schedule.
  • Itinerary flexibility: Pickup time can be adjusted for early flights, Nile cruise schedules, or personal preference  just let us know when booking.

It's a private tour — your vehicle and Egyptologist guide are dedicated to your group only. There's no fixed group schedule, so the pace at each temple is set by you.

Yes — a Luxor drop-off can be arranged instead of the return to your Aswan hotel, which is useful if you're continuing your trip toward Luxor the same day. Let us know when booking so pickup timing and logistics can be adjusted.

Kom Ombo is a dual temple split symmetrically between two gods — Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a falcon-form of Horus — with matching halls and entrances on each side. Edfu is dedicated to Horus alone and is known for how completely its pylon, columns, and wall carvings survived, since desert sand buried the site for centuries before excavation.

The tour runs a full day, roughly 8 hours door to door, including two drives of about an hour each between Aswan, Kom Ombo, and Edfu. Most of that time is spent at the two temples rather than in the car.
