Karnak Temple by Night | Private Sound & Light Show, Luxor

The Karnak Sound and Light Show is a 75-minute walk through Egypt's largest temple complex after dark—narration, music, and lighting laid over ruins that took two thousand years to build. It works well if you're spending a night in Luxor and want to see Karnak somewhere other than under the midday sun.

Your Aten Tours guide meets you at your hotel or Nile cruise, arranges a private, air-conditioned vehicle, and picks up your entrance ticket ahead of time.

You'll walk through the illuminated courtyards and the towering columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall, past the obelisks and ram-headed sphinxes, while the narration works through the pharaohs who built the place and Thebes' history as Egypt's ancient capital. The route ends at the Sacred Lake, where the closing act plays out over the water—the same spot priests once used for their rites.

Combine it with a Luxor Day Tour to see Karnak both lit up and in daylight. Your guide and driver are waiting once the show wraps up for the ride back to your hotel.

Itinerary

Day

Evening Sound and Light Show, Karnak Temple

Pickup is from your hotel or Nile cruise in Luxor, in a private, air-conditioned vehicle, timed to get you to Karnak Temple before the show starts. Your representative has your entrance ticket ready at the gate, so there's no line to stand in before you go through.

From there, the walk moves through the temple grounds in stages: past the row of ram-headed sphinxes lining the old processional approach, through the towering columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall, and alongside the obelisks that mark different periods of construction.

Each section is picked out by lighting as the narration works through who built what, when, and why—the pharaohs, the priesthood, and Thebes' long run as Egypt's religious capital. The walk isn't rushed; there's time to take in the scale of the columns up close before moving on.

The last part of the show is seated, at the edge of the Sacred Lake, where the water reflects the lighting as the story closes out. The full show runs about 75 minutes from entrance to finish. Once it ends, you're back in the vehicle for the return trip to your hotel or Nile cruise, closing out the evening.

Notes

Uneven Ground: Karnak's courtyards and walkways include loose stone and uneven paving all the way to the Sacred Lake. Skip the sandals or heels—flat, comfortable shoes make the walk easier.

Evening Timing: The show starts after sunset, so pickup time shifts across the year with daylight hours. Your guide confirms the exact time once your travel date is set.

Children: Younger children can find the walking distance and uneven ground tiring. If you're traveling with young kids, let us know before booking so we can talk through what to expect.

Schedule Changes: Karnak Temple's authorities set the show's schedule, not Aten Tours. On the rare occasion it's rescheduled or cancelled, your guide tells you in advance and adjusts your pickup time.

Dress Code: Karnak isn't an active place of worship, so there's no religious dress requirement. Comfortable clothing and shoes matter more here than modesty rules.
