Tour Details

A Nile Boat Ride to Garb Soheil Island and an Authentic Nubian Home

  • Your Nubian Village tour crosses the Nile from Aswan's East Bank by private motorboat, a 20 to 25 minute ride past small islands and the old cataracts. On the other side sits Garb Soheil Island, one of the Nubian villages that give this stretch of the Nile its color, with houses painted in blue, yellow, and ochre.
  • Your guide takes you into a real Nubian house, not a staged stop, and introduces you to a local family. You sit with them, ask questions, and hear how Nubian life here has kept its own language, architecture, and customs since many Nubian communities were resettled along this stretch of the Nile after the Aswan High Dam flooded their ancestral land in the 1960s. Compared to the temples and markets, this is a quieter, slower few hours  more about people than monuments.
  • You're with a private, English-speaking Egyptologist guide the whole time, not folded into a bigger group on someone else's schedule. Want to linger longer in the village, or wrap up early? Your guide works around you.
  • Hotel or Nile cruise pickup in Aswan is included, and the boat brings you straight back once you're ready. To adjust timing or combine this with the rest of your Aswan Day Tour  Philae Temple, the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk .

Itinerary

Day1

Nubian Village Tour in Aswan by Boat

  • From the East Bank dock, you board a private motorboat for the 20 to 25 minute crossing to Garb Soheil Island.
  • The route threads past small, undeveloped islands and the old cataracts of Aswan, one of the few stretches of the Nile that still looks close to how it did before the dams changed the river further north. Birds are common along the banks here, and the water is calm enough that most of the ride is spent just watching the shoreline go by rather than holding on
  • . As you get closer, the village comes into view first as a scatter of color against the sand  the houses are painted in blues, yellows, and ochre, which is part of what makes Garb Soheil recognizable even from the water.

Inclusions/Exclusions

Inclusions
  • Hotel or Nile cruise pickup and drop-off in Aswan, so you don't need to arrange separate transport.
  • A private, air-conditioned vehicle for every transfer  no shared shuttles, no waiting on other travelers.
  • A private English-speaking Egyptologist guide who explains what you're seeing and answers questions as you go.
  • Bottled water during the tour, useful given Aswan's heat.
  • Motorboat ride across the Nile to the Nubian Village on Garb Soheil Island.
  • All taxes and service charges included in your quoted price  nothing added at checkout.
Exclusions
  • Anything not listed in the tour itinerary.
  • Gratuities/tipping.

Notes

Dress modestly when visiting the Nubian house  shoulders and knees covered is appreciated, especially for women, since you're a guest inside someone's home. The boat ride is calm and the walk from the dock into the village is short and flat, so this works fine for most fitness levels, older travelers, and families with children.

River conditions occasionally affect timing  if the water level or wind makes the crossing harder on a given day, your guide will adjust the route or departure time. Ask before taking photos inside the house. Most families are happy to have visitors take photos, but it's their home, not a museum stop.

This tour is often combined with the rest of the Aswan Day Tour  Philae Temple, the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk. Let us know if you'd like to build a fuller day. For changes to timing, pickup point, or the itinerary.

All FAQ about Egypt

All FAQ about Egypt

It's one of the few Aswan activities built around people rather than monuments. If you're interested in Egypt beyond temples and want a real conversation with a local family, it's worth the few hours. If you're short on time and prioritizing sites like Abu Simbel or Philae, it's the first thing to trim.

Yes. Pickup and drop-off from your hotel or Nile cruise in Aswan is included, along with private transport by air-conditioned vehicle to and from the boat dock.

Your guide brings you into a real Nubian home and introduces you to a local family. You sit with them, ask questions, and learn about Nubian language, architecture, and daily life, much of which has stayed distinct from the rest of Egypt even after resettlement following the Aswan High Dam's construction in the 1960s.

Yes. You're with your own private Egyptologist guide and motorboat, not grouped with other travelers. The pace and timing are set around your group only.

The tour runs 2 to 3 hours door to door, including hotel pickup, the 20 to 25 minute motorboat crossing each way, and time in the village itself. Since it's private, you can spend longer at the Nubian house if you'd like — just let your guide know.
