Private Family Trip Combining Ancient Cairo, the Sahara's White Desert, and Alexandria's Coast

This 4-day tour is built for families who want a taste of Egypt's history, desert scenery, and Mediterranean coast without committing to a longer trip.

It packs three very different experiences into four days: ancient Cairo, the white rock formations of the Western Desert, and a day by the sea in Alexandria.

You'll start with the Giza Pyramids and the Great Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum's collection of royal artifacts, and a tour of Islamic and Coptic Cairo, including the Citadel of Salah El-Din and the Hanging Church.

The second day heads into the desert, with a 4x4 drive through Bahariya Oasis and the White Desert's chalk formations and rock towers.

The final full day is a trip to Alexandria, covering the Citadel of Qaitbay, the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, with a seafood lunch by the Mediterranean.

A private Egyptologist guide and air-conditioned vehicle travel with your family throughout, so the pace can adjust to your children rather than a fixed group schedule. To check dates or ask about the itinerary, message us on WhatsApp

Itinerary

Day1

Giza Pyramids, Egyptian Museum, Cairo Citadel & Coptic Cairo

The day starts at Giza, where the Great Pyramids have stood for over 4,500 years, alongside the Great Sphinx with its lion's body and pharaoh's head.

Your Egyptologist guide walks you through how the pyramids were built and what they meant to ancient Egyptian society.

From there, you'll visit the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, home to artifacts from King Tutankhamun's tomb, royal mummies, and thousands of other pieces spanning Egypt's ancient history.

After a traditional Egyptian lunch, the afternoon covers Islamic and Christian Cairo.

You'll start at the Citadel of Salah El-Din, with the Mohamed Ali Mosque and sweeping views over the city, then continue to Coptic Cairo, the historic center of Christianity in Egypt, including the Hanging Church, the Ben Ezra Synagogue, and St. Sergius Church (the Cave Church), traditionally linked to the Holy Family's stay in Egypt. Transfer back to your hotel in Cairo for the night.

Day2

Bahariya Oasis & White Desert

An early 7:00 AM departure from your Cairo hotel for the drive to the Western Desert. The first stop is Bahariya Oasis, known for its palm groves and natural springs set against the desert landscape.

Here you'll switch to a 4x4 vehicle to continue deeper into the desert with your guide.

After lunch, the tour continues into the White Desert, starting with Agabat Valley, known for its white chalk and golden limestone formations, where sandboarding on the dunes is an option.

The route continues past volcanic black rock formations and Crystal Mountain, known for its quartz-covered surface (collecting mineral samples is not permitted at the site).

You'll arrive back at your hotel in Cairo in the evening after a full day in the desert.

Day3

Alexandria Day Trip

An early 6:30 AM start from your Cairo hotel for the drive to Alexandria, known as the "Pearl of the Mediterranean" for its Greco-Roman history and coastal setting.

The day begins at the Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15th-century fortress built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, with views over the Mediterranean from its ramparts.

Next are the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, Egypt's largest known catacombs, cut three levels into the rock with a mix of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artwork dating to the 1st century AD.

After a seafood lunch at a local restaurant, the tour continues to Pompey's Pillar and the ruins of the Serapeum, followed by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern library built as a tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria.

In the late afternoon, you'll be driven back to your hotel in Cairo.

Day4

Notes

Days 2 and 3 are both long days: the White Desert trip runs roughly 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and the Alexandria day trip starts around 6:30 AM with a late-afternoon return, each with several hours of driving on top of a full sightseeing schedule.

Families traveling with young children or anyone prone to motion sickness should factor this in and can ask us about a lighter pace or splitting either day differently.

Since Alexandria and the White Desert are both same-day round trips from Cairo, the family keeps the same hotel for all 3 nights, with no packing or unpacking between cities.

Modest dress is recommended for the Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue, and Mohamed Ali Mosque: shoulders and knees covered for all family members. Comfortable, closed shoes are recommended for the Giza Pyramids and the White Desert.

Mineral or rock collecting is not permitted at Crystal Mountain; this is enforced on site.
