The day starts inside the Citadel of Saladin, built around 1176 AD by Salah Al-Din, where you'll walk through the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali, with its Ottoman-style dome and minarets modeled directly on Istanbul's Blue Mosque.
From the Citadel, you'll see two more landmarks of Islamic Cairo the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Madrasa, often called the finest example of Mamluk architecture in the city, and the Ibn Tulun Mosque, built in the 9th century and the oldest mosque standing in Africa.
